Awards & Cow Poetry

Hello Everyone! I hope those of you who celebrate Thanksgiving are enjoying your tryptophan naps and delicious leftovers.

It is time for me to pass on some awards. My last award post was early August and I received these awards soon after, which also coincided with my extended break from blogging (as I was beginning a new job and getting overwhelmed).  I am back and very thankful for the awards my good friends in the online world have bestowed on me. And now, I get to do my favorite thing, bestow these awards on my well-deserving friends.

Lisa Rivero of Lisa Rivero sent me the Summer Blogger Award. Yes, it was awhile ago, but just look at that beach! What a lovely sunny image. I can feel the warmth, oh wait, that is my space heater. But, I do have a sunny day today (despite the snow and 6 degrees).

Belated thanks to you, Lisa, I really appreciate it. And, if any of my followers haven’t checked out Lisa’s site, yet, you are in for a treat. Lisa is a prolific and amazing author whom I have known about and read for many years in the nonfiction world. She is currently working on fiction, and she is such an excellent writer.

The rules for this award are simple:  thank the person who gave it to you with a link back in your post, and send this on to fellow bloggers who rock this summer. List 4 rocking bloggers (if you can or have the time) to share this with, and post a note to them through their comments.

Hmmm, I’ve never had a seasonal award. So, let’s improvise – I am passing this award on to those that have put sun in my life and who have informed, inspired, and impressed me recently:

Karen Schindler of Miscellaneous Yammering and POW Fast Flash Fiction

Deanna Schrayer of The Other Side of Deanna and The Life of a Working Writer Mommy

Mari Juniper of Mari’s Randomities

Sam Adamson of Future; nostalgic

Laura Eno of A Shift in Dimensions

My good friend Deanna of The Other Side of Deanna has created her own award called Deanna’s I’m A Literacy Builder. What a great idea! Deanna has a big heart and is an amazing writer. She inspires me and is truly a wise soul.

Deanna created this award when she was inspired by International Literacy Day and her own love of writing & reading that was instilled in her by many people. Here is what she said:

I only hope that by sharing my love of words that I’m helping to contribute to the growth of that love, and that International Literacy Day will still be here for my great-great-great-great….grandchildren to celebrate.

To share this love of words I’ve created a new award: Deanna’s “I’m A Literacy Builder” Blog Award.

Now, I’m not going to lay a bunch of heavy rules of acceptance on y’all, just a couple small ones:

  1. Thank and link back to the person who gave you this award.
  2. Display the award logo on your blog site.
  3. Tell us five of your favorite words and why you like them, (add as many as you like).
  4. Pass the award on to three bloggers you feel are excellent literacy builders, and link to their sites – Yes, only three!
  5. Contact the bloggers you’ve chosen and let them know about the award.

Five of my Favorite Words:

First of all, this is really hard – I will give it my best shot…

Privy – love the way it sounds, and has diverse meanings – knowing secrets or outdoor toilet

Pyewacket coolest cat name (Gillian Holroyd’s cat and familiar in the film Bell, Book and Candle – and so many other fun historical roots)

Kringla – fun to say and is my all time favorite family cookie (Norwegian) and also the name of my favorite pet – my orange tabby

Kitty-Corner – how we always described the direction of someone’s house that was diagonal from another point of reference (see a cat theme developing)

Free – anyway you use it, it creates excitement

Bloggers I feel are excellent literacy builders:

Johanna Harness of Johanna’s Big Thoughts (the queen and creator of #amwriting)

Marisa Birns of Out of Order Alice

Linda Simoni-Wastila of LEFTBRAINWRITE

Marc Nash of Sulci Collective

Dan Holloway of Year Zero Writers and Eight Cuts Gallery

My good friend Estrella Azul of Life’s A Stage – Web Blog sent me the Prolific Blogger Award. Thanks Estrella! I don’t feel so prolific the past few months, but I hope to get in the groove again. This award helps to inspire me. Estrella is a heart-felt creative writer and makes beautiful jewelery. Check out her blog!

The rules of acceptance related to this award are:

  • Every winner of the Prolific Blogger Award has to pass on this award to at least seven other deserving prolific bloggers. Spread some love!
  • Each Prolific Blogger must link to the blog from which he/she has received the award.
  • Every Prolific Blogger must link back to the original post, which explains the origins and motivation for the award.
  • Every Prolific Blogger must visit this original post and add his/her name in the Mr. Linky, so that we all can get to know the other winners.
  • I’m passing this award on to:

    Carrie Clevenger of Mindspeak

Angie Capozello of Techtigger’s Soapbox and The Penny Dreadful

Jim Bronyaur of Jim Bronyaur and Soft Whispers

Alison Wells of Head Above Water

Jessica Rosen of Girl Meets Word

    Emma Newman of Post-Apocalyptic Publishing

George Angus of George Angus (TumbleMoose)

    4. You’re very welcome and deserving of the award honey! And thank you for the kind words, you’re the sweetest! 🙂

      1. thanks so much, Estrella – I hope you are all packed and on your way to Italy, or already there? Take lots of pics!

    5. Interestingly enough, “kitty-corner” is a word I’ve been pondering this week. “Pyewacket,” however, is a new one altogether. I like it!

      1. That is quite the coincidence! I remember using kitty-corner, but noticed it has many other forms that are probably more correct – I just love cats, so I prefer this one!

    6. some wonderful picks and a grand champion supporter cheering the on to boot..!

      1. Well Michael, so glad to see you!!

Thanks so much! I send you a big Minnesota HELLO! They still talk about how it hasn’t been the same since you left!

    7. Damn the electric fence indeed!! Love it 🙂

Congrats on the well deserved awards!

      1. Hi Jemi!!

I was just thinking about you! Thanks for stopping by! I need to get out to blogs and circulate now that I’m back online more. Yours is on my list!

Like I always say, “Don’t Fence Me In,” electric fences are the worst! *wink*

    8. Oh my. I so don’t deserve this. Thank you for thinking of me Anne. ^_^

      1. Hi Carrie – but of course I think of you and YES, you do deserve it!

Don’t make me send Mr. Fluffy over there.

    9. Happy Thanksgiving Anne! It’s so great to see you in interland, and especially wonderful to see you reaping all these marvy awards! And thank you for mine! I’m also woefully behind on passing along awards, but will get to it soon. Hope life is treating you well. Peace…

      1. Hi ya, Linda! You are so very welcome. Life seems to be going well, the holidays always help! Take care!

    10. Thank you, Anne! Congrats on your awards. I’m also woefully behind in an award post. I hope to see you here more often…you’ve been missed!

      1. Forgot to say how much I loved the cow poetry!

      2. Aw, thanks, Laura. I have missed everyone too. It is hard for me to do several things at once. I think the job is getting more balanced (I got a lot of work dumped on me at first, until I figured out what was reasonable and said, NO, to everyone). So hopefully I can be a regular presence again in my favorite world – this one – online with my best friends!!

    11. Thanks for the award Anne! I guess after 60 episodes I count as prolific *lol* hope you had a great holiday, and good luck with wrapping up NaNoWriMo 🙂

      1. Absolutely! Wow, Angie, you are up to 60 episodes? Time for the novel!

Well, NaNo is not going to be won by me this year, but I have a nice start to a novel I have been procrastinating, so end result is still good for me.

    12. So many good blogs to check out here! Thank you for the very kind words, Anne. 😀
      Hugs,
      Lisa

      1. Hi Lisa,

I’ve been offline so much, and it is now great to see everyone more often. I hope you are doing well and the fiction writing projects are coming along!

    13. I enjoyed popping into twitter and finding the phrase “cow poetry for @karenfrommentor” hee hee hee. And the actual poetry was even better.

Thank you for saying that I put sunshine into your life. I know that you warm my [hesitates over keyboard for a while deciding-then says what the heck]… udders. Well it was that or “cockels” and I’m pretty sure that cows don’t have cockels. Bulls on the other hand….

      GIANT hugs m’dear!!
Thanks for the shout out for me and for Pow.
      Karen :0)

      1. Hi Karen!

HA! You are too, too much! And that is why I love you!

Thanks for the laughs back my way – You are udderly delightful!

    14. Congrats on your many awards Anne, and thanks for the warmest one of them. 😉 I can use the heat here too, ehh.

Oh, the cow poetry is soooo precious! 😀

      1. Hi Mari-Girl2,

How are you?! So glad to see you. We must chat!

    15. Thank you, Anne, for honoring me with such a lovely award. And for making me LAUGH so much with that bovine poetry! 😀

      1. Hi Mari-Girl,

I’m glad you enjoyed the poetry. I thought is was appropriate, from a Midwestern gal!

    16. Congrats on all the fine awards and well earned. It’s nice to see your smiling icon back on the scroll regularly. (Although I disappeared for a bit, which may contribute to my having missed yours!) Thanks for thinking of me with the Blog Award, very kind of you. I’ll mull and get on it. In the meantime, I wish you days full of wonder and joy.

      Take care,
      Jess

      1. Thanks so much, Jessica. And, your chats with me on Twitter have been helpful. So many of us, here, struggle with pain. Have a great holiday season!

    17. Congratulations Anne! And thank you so much, not only for the Summer Blogger Award, but especially for your kind words. I am so glad to see my “literacy builder” award being passed on to so many wonderful writers.

Love the cow poetry! So glad to have you back! Much love to you!

      1. Hi Deanna, you have a wonderful award – it will be fun to see it go out into the world.

    18. Wow! Thanks Anne! I’m woefully behind on my Awards post, but I will file this one away and add it to the post I have in the works. 🙂

      1. Yeah! Thanks for popping in, Sam!
