9\/11 Shock Waves<\/p>\n

Today I watched the 9\/11 memorial,
\nsimilar to the time I watched 8 years ago,
\non Good Morning America.
\nI sat with my
\n9 month old babies,
\ntalking on the phone to my husband.
\n\"9-11\"<\/p>\n

I watched at the moment,
\nCharlie Gibson,
\nwas getting alarmed at
\nthe live sight of planes
\ncrashing into the twin towers.
\nI watched captivated all day
\nwith my nation.<\/p>\n

Completely in disbelief.
\nI continued to watch as the,
\ndetails came in,
\nthe immensity of the tragedy
\ngrowing minute by minute.<\/p>\n

\"911<\/p>\n

My heart felt the shock waves,
\nfrom so far away.
\nOur entire culture still
\nfeels them today.
\nWe bow our head
\nand remember the dead,
\nWe become silent inside
\nAnd, in our hearts, they still abide.<\/p>\n

We all feel the shock<\/p>\n

going forward through time,<\/p>\n

since 9\/11.<\/p>\n

My relative, two tours
\nin the war zone, maybe
\nthree, soon.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"War\"<\/p>\n

My friend,
\ngrieving for the loss of her
\nson, from the war.
\nThe many, many
\nsuffering families,
\nwith loss and grief.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We feel the shock waves
\nreturn with each disaster.
\n35W bridge collapse,
\nin my own hometown,
\nwhere my husband travels,
\nEach tragedy,
\npersonal or national,
\nreckons back…
\nintensified by our
\nexperience of 9\/11.<\/p>\n

\"911<\/p>\n

We have all struggled to
\nfeel safe again,
\nto hope again,
\nfor better times.
\nBut we are strong,
\nand together we belong,
\nwhere we can find,
\na way out of this bind.<\/p>\n

8 years ago, as I watched
\nthe terror unfold,
\nI was a new parent,
\nthankful to protect my infants
\nat home, watching their every move.
\nSo new to the world from my
\nprotected womb.
\nThis week, 8 years later,
\nI send them to school
\nfor the first time,
\nso new to the world,
\nfrom their protected
\nhome school.<\/p>\n

\"signing\"<\/p>\n

I sign the medical forms,
\nand pray,
\nplease protect my child,
\nfrom anaphylaxis…<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I sign the forms,
\nYes,
\nplease administer potassium iodide,
\nin case of
\n\u201ca nuclear event,\u201d
\nrequired, due to our
\nproximity to a nuclear
\npower plant.<\/p>\n

My concerns seem so minor,
\nin view of the events,
\nbut the outcome,
\nshould a disaster
\nor accident occur,
\nfor me, as a parent,
\nwould be the same.<\/p>\n

I feel the ripple
\nof the shock wave
\nof fear,
\nintensified in our culture.
\nAnother reminder
\nof our lack of control.<\/p>\n

\"911-1\"<\/p>\n

Safety, protection,
\ncontrol of the terrorists,
\nall illusions…
\nWe do our best,
\nbut pain and loss
\nare inevitable.<\/p>\n

What can we do,
\nto heal the shock waves?
\nWhat can we do,
\nto help our fear recede?<\/p>\n

Breathe in the pain of our
\nfriends and family,
\nBreathe out the love
\nthat surpasses all comprehension…
\n…I feel it is not enough.<\/p>\n

Breathe in the pain of our world,
\nBreathe out compassion…
\n…I still feel it is not enough.<\/p>\n

Breathe in your own fears and insecurities,
\nBreathe out stillness and peace.<\/p>\n

Breathe,
\nRemember our shared humanity.
\nFeel the compassion arise.<\/p>\n

Breathe,
\nRemember our shared Spirit.
\nWatch the wisdom arise.<\/p>\n

Now,
\ngo help those in need,
\neach day and
\nkeep breathing.<\/p>\n
