The Writer’s Life: Come on Over for Coffee

As many of you have seen on Twitter, I have opened a new Twitter Domain (@Writers_Life) and started a new hashtag (#Writers_Life) because we all know we need more writer hashtags, right? Well, it helps me keep things straight.

My shiny new Twitter Domain is burning rubber. It has been active for five days and my good friends are piling in along with several new followers. If you haven’t been there yet, stop by and follow me.

What Will I Post in The Writer’s Life?

In January 2010, I began#WriterlbsOff. I will continue with @Writer’s_Life and #Writers_Life. I will be tweeting about creativity and psychology related to the writer’s life and interesting tidbits about our personal experiences of being a writer. In the future, I plan to interview writers about their creative process.

On my website ABOUT page, I said…

The Writer’s Life is my regular series that looks at the life of writers from a personal angle; our challenges, our quests, and what drives us to create.

I draw from my psychotherapy background, and my own writing life, to write posts to inspire writers to unleash their creativity. I will wave my magic wand to…

~Amaze you with explorations into the mysteries of the creative process,

~Inspire you with ways to animate your inner muses, or at least throw a lasso around ‘em when they try to run away, and,

~Excite you to embrace the wild, wacky, scary, bizarre, frustrating, blissful, ecstatic experience of being a writer, as I try to do the same.

What Will I be Tweeting with @Writers_Life?

Starting now, and through the summer, in addition to my regular Tweeting of current information, I want to Retweet/Tweet archival content that is relevant to creativity and the writer’s life (about 1-2 Tweet a day). This is content that deserves more exposure and is always helpful to read again if you have seen it. I think it is a shame that so much great content flies by our online window so quickly. I will be digging the archives and tweeting content from places like these, and many more:

Psychology Today
TED Talks
Talent Development Resources
Scientific American
Zen Habits
Lateral Action
ABCcreativity
isca media – Making Me
The Writer’s Funhouse
Time to Write
Creative Something
Mildly Creative
I Geek for Creativity
Dose of Creativity
Spilling Ink – Creativity Blog
Eric Maisel, Julia Cameron, Natalie Goldberg & other authors writing about the writer’s life

Multimedia, Multidisciplinary Creativity: Our inspiration comes from many places. I know I am inspired by what others have created in other fields of art. I will tweet photography, dance, music, art and anything amazingly creative that I find.

Creativity Gone Wild: I will feature a video each week that represents “creativity gone wild” with stunts, advertisements and amazing creative projects others have done.

How Do I Use The Hashtag – #Writers_Life?

#Writers_Life can be used in several ways (that I can think of now) and will hopefully expand into many uses by me and my followers. I love to watch the creative expansion of the collective Twitter consciousness!

There is no special chat time – it is a hashtag for anytime. I will use it to retweet relevant content, to announce posts of The Writer’s Life, to tweet content I find and to invite everyone to my virtual parties.

Come over to the #Writers_Life Coffeehouse

I would also love to see #Writers_Life be a place that writers feel free to use to discuss how they are doing with their writing & creative life. Think of it as our own personal virtual coffeehouse for writers where we can talk about our personal triumphs and challenges, support each other and have a little fun to boost our mood. You know I love it when wild groups of writers hijack my comments and have wild parties.

When we have an issue to discuss, get fed up with our writing, want to celebrate a victory or just chat & goof off, someone can initiate a visit to #Writers_Life and we can all hang out for awhile.

I know this will help me chat with my friends easier – I am getting overwhelmed by my homefeed and even my groups. This way we can find the tweets easier.

Imagine Tweets like this:

My muse has left me, if anyone sees him, please tell him to come home, I have chocolate #Writers_Life

Today was a crappy writing day, anyone want to go to #Writers_Life for coffee?

Mr. Fluffy and Jezebel are starting their own muse for hire service – anyone want to give it a try? #Writers_Life

You get the idea.

I hope you will enjoy my expanded tweeting and please come over for coffee anytime!

  1. […] hope you are enjoying my new hashtag – #Writers_Life. I am posting archive items about 1-2 a day and finding current Tweets in the Twitter stream to share with you. I want all my friends to feel […]

  2. I can see myself frequenting this hashtage, as my muse is very fickle. 🙂

Thanks for the post explaining everything!

  3. Great idea, Anne! I look forward to reading your tweets and articles. I think I’ve already favorited a few. 🙂

    CD

    1. Thanks Cecilia, I hope this new venture will be a great resource for everyone!

  4. I am so BLOATED with all this coffee! But at least I have enough energy to go hunt down the carousing couple. Marisa and Lazlo best run for cover….

  5. I was in the cave and didn’t notice the coffee house, but Mr Fluffy and Jezebel said Anne had a business proposition for them so they dragged me out for a look.

    Great place here!

    1. Hey Laura,

Happy to see you stop in – there are so many new fun tech toys in the cave, I know it is hard to come out sometimes. Do you like my new mosaic on the back wall?

Is Marisa and Laszlo in that cave with you? They were supposed to be back two hours ago!

      1. The mosaic has me mesmerized…

Marisa and Lazlo stopped in briefly but ran back out giggling. I think she must have been a handful as a child…have you looked in the bar?

        1. What do you mean, “as a child,” she still is. No, not at the bar…*still tapping finger*… I need to do other things today besides do Laszlo’s job

  6. BTW – Sorry I didn’t join you all for the chat. I just feel, when any character, but especially the main one, is knocking, it’s best to answer the door right away, and it paid off. But I did miss chatting with y’all. I have about 1/2 hour before a training session I must concentrate on, (and should be studying for), but with the dad-blamed problems I’m having (with work computer), I believe I’ll continue that interview and try to keep up with y’all here too.

    1. No worries, you keep on going and we will catch up with you later – glad you are coming through the computer problems okay! Your Writing Life has saved the day!!

  7. Okay – tea helped. I also went out and picked some irises for myself, which are now in a pretty vase in my office. Then I walked away from work computer and spent 1/2 hour interviewing my MC. Wow! Even though I’m still having trouble with work computer, I could care less. Ready for that coffee now – hurry up Marisa!

Sam, the proper acro would be ‘BH’: Better Half, especially now I suppose. 🙂

    1. Yes Deanna, you’re quite right, Better Half it is.

Sorry to hear you’ve been at the mercy of computer gremlins today. I would have said that earlier, but I’ve been trying to wrangle that new laptop *sigh*

  8. Clara Gillow Clark

Thanks for doing this, Anne! You are an inspiration.

    1. Thanks so much, Clara – you are very kind.

  9. Fantastic! Just where I need to be right now – somewhere with good coffee and good conversation with great friends. 🙂

On the plus side, my wonderful OH has just bought me a laptop, on the downside I now have to learn to configure Windows 7; I think it all works, though where LiveMail has stashed my imported messages beats the *ahem* out of me.

Strong coffee is called for I think. 😉

    1. Sam, that is great! A new computer is always exciting, until you have to configure. (BTW – what or who is OH, that is a new one for me – Offensive Hippie? Odd Hungarian? Old Horse? Ornery Hog?

One strong coffee coming up, as soon as Laszlo & Marisa get back…*tapping counter*…

      1. …Offensive Hippie? Odd Hungarian? Old Horse? Ornery Hog?

ROFL!!! Ah, it would appear I’ve let slip with another of my “Only I know what it means” abbreviations. Sorry. OH stands for my Other Half, ‘Er Indoors, the wife, Mrs Future; Nostalgic, She Who Must Be Obeyed and, as she’s been particularly generous, she will be obeyed; at least for a while yet! 😉

        1. I wondered if it was your wife – but used to DW. Very tricky that OH acronym. You are a good husband when you refer to her as “She Who Must Be Obeyed.” I’ve heard that a few times, makes me smile – hehe!

          1. TBH, “She Who Must Be Obeyed” sounds better when I have the kneepads on!

  10. Lazlo has a ten-minute break so I’m going to be in the back room with him.

He’s going to show me his latest tattoo which I hope is located just…

No, we’ll be drinking coffee, of course.

    1. Oh my, looks like you missed him too. We shall see you guys in a few minutes.

Everyone go over to #Writers_Life for Cinco De Mayo

We are serving Mexican Coffee (G Rated for morning)

Mexican Coffee (the afternoon variety – with Tequila and coffee liquor)

Laszlo has mixed up a huge batch of Aunt Isa’s – Cola De Mono (a special Chilean coffee drink – usually served at Christmas – but today is a special day)

I’m also serving Brazilian Coffee Cookies

  11. I still don’t really understand Twitter, perhaps you could post something about how to get the most from it?

    1. Hi Barry, thanks for stopping by. That would be a great topic. I’m sure everyone here would be able to offer a lot of advice and ideas.

      1. Sure could! If you want to pick my brains (such as they are), feel free.

  12. What a great place to settle down when the muse is working out. Or not working out, which is a different thing entirely. No wonder you got all those awards over there on the right–smart and talented is a good combination!

    1. Gee, thanks. I hope you will join us at the coffeehouse!

  13. Since it’s Cinco de Mayo, I think a coffee with a latin kick is in order!

    1. Oh yes, that’s exactly what I’m in DESPERATE need of this morning!

      1. Hi Deanna, well come on in, the coffee is perking.

    2. Oh yeah, that sounds great! I have heard a few different ways to prepare Latin coffee – any favorites? Laszlo is working at the coffeeshop as a Barista, he said he missed you.

      1. Oh my gracious! I’m in even greater need now as I’m having computer problems, (with my work computer), and it appears that I’ve lost about 12 hours of work! I’m rebooting now in the hopes that will correct it, but if I really did lose all that work, I will not be a happy woman! I may need some therapeutic, relaxing tea instead of Latin coffee!

        1. Oh my, that would be terrible – enjoy some tea today – try the Tension Tamer teas. Then later you can have one of the powerful Mexican Coffees (not G rated)

  14. Sounds like a great idea, Anne! I mostly visit on Twitter during the chats, but I’ll definitely check it out 🙂

    1. Hi Jemi,

I’m glad you got your computer problems solved. Thanks, I hope you will keep up with my feed!

  15. You serve the best coffee, Anne. It has this creative twisty taste to it.

Thanks for all you do. 😉

    1. Hi Jodi, believe me, there will be nothing but the best virtual coffee served here!

  16. Well I’m all set Anne! I just had my daily (and yes I know this is bad) cup of 1/2 Sumatran blend, 1/2 butter toffee coffee. No whipped cream, but 3 heaping Tbs of sugar – it’s a BIG cup!

I really appreciate all you do to keep us connected Anne, and look forward to the #writers_Life tweets and especially the parties!

    Cheers!

    1. Whoa, there, now that is one heck of a cup of coffee – Yum. Be careful if you tweet after that – you may get a speeding ticket.

Glad to have you along – you are a good friend!

  17. This is a perfect place to go hang out at various times during the day! What a brilliant idea. 😉

    Yum. Coffee whenever I want.

Are Jezebel and Mr. Fluffy hiring themselves out? Guess Laura has cut back on the hits lately.

    1. I just love coffee. I will get to have the perfectly made espresso (with caffeine) when I come to our virtual coffeehouse. And, we must have more poetry readings at night or musical performances on the weekend.

I am hinting to Laura about a new business venture – wouldn’t it be fun to rent them out sometimes?

  18. Coffee and writing: no better combination! Oh, wait, there’s the wine thing… heh

Wonderful initiative Anne! I’m on it already. 😉

    1. Oh yeah, I can’t forget about the wine – that will be served after 4 p.m. (calculated by-anywhere in the world)
